Lincswings Christmas Party - Dec 2025

This year Lincswings members returned to the Vine Hotel to join in their excellent Christmas Party bash.  Sandy and Jayne, Stephen and Lynne, Trevor and Marion, Mick and Helen, and Dave took part, but unfortunately we had a few members drop out for different reasons (are we getting old ???).  However, those of us who attended had a great night.  The meal was nicely fresh cooked and the bar was open all night (so no complaints about early closing).  After eating drinking and dancing we retired to comfortable rooms got a good night's sleep and a yummy full English breakfast the next day.

Our thanks for Sandy and Jayne for organising the weekend and of course our thanks go out to the staff of the Vine Hotel for their wonderful service and great food.  Here are a few pictures I managed to take before I had too many beers to hold the camera straight.

Merry Christmas Everyone

Veteran's Ride out

Sandy contacted us a couple of months ago to see if Mark would take a veteran for a ride on Alan’s trike and Alan was very happy for Mark to help.   On Tuesday afternoon we met Graham Robinson a 73 year old veteran who now sadly has cancer and receiving palliative care.

Mark took him around Barton where he lives and met Debbie and Alan for coffee.

Graham was with the T.A in Scunthorpe. Originally it was the Royal Lincoln’s which then changed to the Royal Anglians. He left after he had a bad car accident.  He lived in Scunthorpe until 2000 when he moved to Barton to care for his partner where he still lives today.

Despite being early November, it was a very nice day to go out for a ride and Graham enjoyed every minute of it.  He was also very happy and grateful to have ridden on a Goldwing trike and Debbie, Mark and Alan were happy to help make his day.

Well Done Graham

Skegness Social Weekend - 3 - 6 October 2025

Just a few months ago we announced that the Skegness Light Parade had been cancelled.  This was due to many reasons but the most difficult obstacle was the rising cost of services (such as road closures and medical cover) as well as a mounting administrative task just to run the show.  Regretfully, it was time to accept the reality that the Parade was becoming unaffordable, especially as sources of local grants had dried up over the past few years.  Instead, we held a Social Weekend at the Golden Palms Holiday Camp, using the caravans we had pre-booked for the parade.   This year we had been ousted from our regular weekend at the end of September by a National Darts Competition.  However, there was a silver lining to our cloud and instead we shared the weekend with the National Triumph Motor Cycle Owners Club.

The earlier cancellation of our parade actually worked out quite well in the end because the weather on the East Coast on Friday was dreadful with rain showers and gusting wind.  Saturday dawned clear but the wind continued to be quite severe with scattered showers and would not have been a welcome addition to a bike ride or the Light Parade.  Any ideas we had to organise a ride-out soon went out the window at this point.

Our main activity for the weekend was to organise a Coffee Morning to raise donations for the Macmillan Nursing charity.  All our members had spent time either baking or buying cakes for the event.  Saturday morning saw a crew of happy campers setting up the cake stall.  We also had a Tombola stall and a massive Raffle as well as Scratch boards on sale.  The morning was expected to run from 10.00am to 15.00pm but we managed to sell out all of the cakes and coffee by just after 12.30.

Sunday was quite restful for everyone and included the famous Carvery Lunch at JW’s Bar and Grill.  Then it was time to relax and restore as we enjoyed the wide range of ales and spirits (in various quantities !!).  We were pleased to hear that our Coffee morning had raised more than £2300 for the MacMillan Nurses and donations were still arriving and being counted.

Despite our disappointment over the cancellation of the Light Parade, we managed to enjoy a great social weekend and were pleased to welcome wingers from all parts of the country, despite the poor weather.  We also managed to raise a substantial donation for the MacMillan Nurses.  We plan to return next year for the first weekend of October at the Golden Palm Camp Site.  We also plan to liaise with the Triumph Owners club to organise some joint displays and ride-outs where possible.

Lincswings Region Meeting - 14 Sept 2025

Lincs wingers met at Market Rasen Cricket Club for our 2 monthly meeting.  We discussed the Wing Ding and concluded it had been a successful event, although we did end up paying for the use of the Sports Field (which had not been indicated until very late in our planning).  The ride-outs went well and the general feeling was that everyone had a good time.  We also looked at Wing Ding dates for next year and we are considering an event at the Market Rasen Cricket Club, possibly to co-incide with the Rase Park Gala.  We also discussed this year's Treffen and, for those who attended, it was well received.  People thought that it was relaxed, enjoyable and free from distractions which had plagued previous events.

Our Skegness Light Parade had been cancelled this year.  A victim of its own success and the rising cost of services.  This year we will enjoy a social weekend.  There will be no parades (either static or mobile) so for those attending, they can look forward to a good old fashioned meet, greet, chat and chuckle.

We were fortunate to have Sally Farman who is Chairwoman of the Macmillan Nurses, Cancer Care, Fund Raining Committee.  Sandy and Jayne we extremely pleased to be able to present a cheque (a 3 foot long cheque) for the sum of £6544.00.  This was the £6000 raised at last year's SKLP and then a further £544 raised by Sandy and Jayne with Pub quizzes and raffles.   Sally gave her sincere thanks on behalf of her committee and thanked Lincs Wingers and everyone who helped to raise such a fine donation for her cause.

Our next meeting will be held in November and this will be our AGM.

Dave's Workshop

Dave has been polishing his spanners and greasing up his torque wrench to continue his refurbishment of his GL1500.  As most of us discover, the outside of the Wing looks great, but underneath it can get covered in corrosion.  So Dave decided to strip the old gal down and do some fixing and replacement.

First the silencers were covered in rust, so after stripping down and lots of searching, he now has some nice stainless steel ones mounted and working.

Next the wheels.  They do take a beating on our UK roads.  So he took them out to be cleaned up, sand blasted and then powder coated.  Now they look absolutely fabulous.

So Davey, all you got to do now is put it all back together.

Here are a few more pictures of Dave's GL1500 in his travels

Great work.

Scarborough Light Parade 2025

Mark & Debbie, Alan, Martin G, Martin C and David attended the Scarborough Light Parade last week.  Debbie reported that there were around 92 bikes/trikes in the static parade and over 80 joined in the evenings Light Parade.  A great weekend was had by all and it was great to see Alan out and about after the loss of his leg.  Here is Martin C giving the previous Mayor a ride on his Trike for the parade.

Hornsea Bike Fest - Sunday 17th August

Debbie and Mark met Sue & Doug at the Wingfield Farm pub just over the Humber Bridge on their way to the Hornsey bike fest.

There must have been a 1,000 plus bikes/trikes/custom bikes. We had a good walk round, several bike clothing stalls, drinks and food plus a band playing. It was all very well organised.

We met Graham and Karen Jackson from Yorkshire, which was a nice surprise as we haven’t seen them for over two years. Graham has been poorly but feeling a lot better.

Altogether it was a nice day out and a great event.
